Finding the Right Storage Unit Size

Estimating how much space you will need for your storage unit seems like an easy enough task, but can often be a bit misleading. Here are a few steps that will help guide you in choosing the storage size that’s right for you.

Start by making a list of the items you plan to store. Group them according to how you will organize or pack them. Identify boxed versus non-boxed items. Those of higher priority will go closer to the front of the storage unit, with more fragile items on top. Once you have done this, you should visit your storage unit company and get an idea of what you may need by looking at each unit for yourself. 5’ x5’ is a standard small storage unit that my just hold holiday decorations or a small chest drawer with a few other small items. The biggest unit is about 10’ x 30’ and can hold the contents of about five office rooms. This includes many desks, several large boxes, seasonal storage, large shelves, or even a few pallets of inventory.

Your storage representative can answer any questions you may have, so take advantage of their expertise and save yourself the extra trouble.
