Review

Praise for Wreck This Journal

Wreck This Journal encourages you to stop fretting about quality and start relishing the artistic process.” —Oprah.com

“I love this book and the playful way that Keri Smith teaches people the act of creating by putting you right on the spot.  Wreck This Journal is a fun, interactive book that you will want to work in every day. To create is to destroy, and this book delivers.” — D*I*Y Planner

“No matter where you start or where you end, there''s always something interesting to do. . . . The book is an exploration into creativity.” — Buffalo News

“This new edition calls to mind the Technicolor of summer as it helps you let go of your inhibitions and helps you realize that your creativity doesn’t have to look like any one thing—you can destroy to create while also embracing chance and change . . . you can’t truly embrace new wisdom and creativity until you’re willing to sacrifice a bit of the old.” —Books for Better Living

“The ideal gift for artistic minded people, or not, for that matter, as what I love about this book is that there is no right or wrong. Neat, messy, colorful, dark, you can wreck however you want.” — Hawwa, etc.

“I''ve kept journals before, but have never written in them as frequently as I write in my  Wreck This Journal. It is great for inspiration; it gives you tasks that are thought-provoking rather than pages of endless blank lines. It is a great way to pass the time and a great gift for anyone, no matter how young or old.” — Teen Ink

“Wreck this Journal makes a great gift for someone who''s going through a stressful time, needs a form of release, or anyone who could use a few minutes of fun.” — Jactionary

Wreck This Journal encourages you to experiment and have fun. . . . Flip to any page in the book and you will find a prompt: fun prompts, destructive prompts, creative prompts to help your creative juices flow.” — Craft Critique

“Calling all bookworms and creative doodlers,  Wreck This Journal is the perfect book to spruce up your summer. . . . It’s a wonderful stress reliever and brings out the inner childish behavior we are so often told to get over. You won’t be disappointed.” —Kristine Marie Babauta,  Marianas Variety

I purchased this on a recommendation from a friend. I am a former elementary school art teacher who has an 11-year-old granddaughter who is a very talented artist. However, she suffers from what many children (and adults) do, fear of failing. This journal is fantastic. With humor and insight, the reader is instructed to do everything the perfectionist would rebel against: draw outside the lines, use colors they hate, tear out pages and run them through the wash and put them back...to name only a few. I went back and purchased another copy for another grandchild for a Christmas gift, with the instruction in the card to "Wreck This Journal and give it to your mom next year for Christmas".

I bought this for my 6yo granddaughter for Christmas. She was less than thrilled to get a book.

But, her mom started paging through it and was excited! She saw immediately what I saw when I received the books: Really interesting art challenges like "put sticky things on this page."

When I saw this book, I wanted to start copying some of the ideas for my toddler. Instead, I think I''ll get a copy for the toddler! Sure, I''ll have to help her read the instructions, but they''re usually one line and easy to follow.

I also plan on getting one for my other granddaughter''s 7th birthday this year. Great rainy day and alone time activities.

It''s a book that will change with every use. I wouldn''t be afraid to get one every year for the toddler to do--it will be interesting how her creative thought progresses in the next 4 years.

Also, it''s not limited to girls. The activities in it are art. It''s not biased to gender. I may also purchase for my grandson''s 5th birthday.

4 stars only because it doesn''t sit well with young children as a gift. "You got me a <i>book??</i>" Probably better just to buy and add to your rainy day stash.

This book inspires creativity, but even more important - it''s fun! As a person who tries to keep my drawing and journals neat and tidy, I had so much fun wrecking (and continuing to wreck) this book. I took it to a concert and got an autograph - I''m usually too shy, but my journal gave me confidence. The musician wrote all over the front cover in a sharpie! I took it out in a rainstorm in Arizona and put red dirt in it - soaked me and my journal - I laughed, much needed laughter! I don''t want to say too much - inspire your own creative moments. It makes me smile every time pull it out. Enjoy your journey!

You should watch some You tube videos of wreck this journal for ideas and inspiration or if you want to see what exactly this book is about! I just love mine and my sister was happy with her gift- I bought it and also bought a school box that I filled with glue, colored pencils, ink pads, colored string, stickers, paint etc.- all things that you will need when you "Wreck" your journal!!!

All the five stars? I bought this for a bright, creative 13 year-old who likes painting and journals. These pages have things such as "infuse this page with the smell of your cooking," " collect pocket lint and glue it here," "take into the shower with you," "add a color to this page every day for a month,," "hide this page in your neighbor''s yard," "turn this book into a shoe," "find a way to wear this journal," etc. I can''t see any young person over the age of 5 liking anything about this book. Total waste of money. Writer must have a lot of friends and relatives.

I can never write in a journal even if I force my self to. This is a very fun journal to do with your children or for adults to do on their own. It doesn''t require you to write any thing. Just be creative and make a mess. This is my motto I live by when creating something. Great for children because they don''t have to write. They can have fun and make a mess. Just what children like to do. This also helps them bring out their creative side they didn''t know they have. It brought mine out and I am an adult. Great for adults who don''t like to write but like to be creative. This is also great for any college student. College can be stressful and boring. Sometimes college students don''t have time to write in a journal because they are so busy with homework and assignments. This a great stress reliever for College students who hate writing or just don''t have time to write.

I recently purchased "Wreck this Journal" to try and get my creative juices flowing again. Like many artists, I''ve got stuck in a rut and lost focus. This surprising and funny book has helped me to think outside of the box and have been doing the projects. I would recommend this for anyone who thinks that they can''t do art, as you don''t have to be an artist to use this journal.Wreck This Journal: To Create is to Destroy I really enjoyed the eat this page but do not swallow. This book will get you messy. Is it fun, a resounding YES! Some that you can use spontaneously even if you get a few odd looks, but art should be fun and challenging. I''ve also purchased this book which I thought was a worthwhile buy as well from the same author. The Guerilla Art Kit

What a brilliant idea. I liked this so much that I bought two straight out and I am not dissapointed. My children were a bit confused about them as first but once they realised what they were they loved the idea too. Three months on and they are still refering to them. My daughter even rushed upstairs with there tongue sticking out the other day just so that she could lick one of the pages with her tongue which had turned blue with sweet she was sucking. How creative is that. I can''t wait to take it on a walk through the woods dragging behind us on a piece of string myself. What a rebel !

Drop food on it! Eat it! This book is so much fun and every time you do a page it turns out different. A true masterpiece when you''ve finished however mashed up it may look. Why not buy two our three between friends and share them? The results will be definitely something to remember.

While I really love the concept of this book, I do struggle to actually carry out some of the instructions, but that''s probably just me. It''s a brilliant idea, and if you have the time and inclination to dedicate some time to complete it all it''s pretty good. My main issue with it is that some of the instructions are things that require leaving your house to do things, and I think I''d look pretty stupid doing some of the things the journal requests! But, if you''re a free spirit, or you just don''t care what your neighbours think of you then that won''t be a problem!

This book was what my daughter ordered and when it came I was egar to play. ,She however would not let me, so I ordered my own. I opened it up and started to read the pages. I could not wait to get tucked in. The size is handy to take with you so you can personalise it in a variety of ways not just with a pen. I am still thinking of fun and exciting ways to finish mine all though I''m finding it hard as I like to keep my books in good condition, however I have managed to start to wreck it. And I am pleased to say glad I bought my own let the competition commence lol. I have recently ordered my nephew one too for his birthday!
